Media Player problems with VLC and FFMPEG via RTSP

I am evaluating Media Player SDK for use with our network camera projects. I am using the WPF version of 'Media Player SDK .NET Demo (SDK v8.6.31.0, TRIAL)' and pointing at Panasonic and Axis IP cameras using RTSP.

When I select '(decode using FFMPEG)' as the Source Mode, I don't get an image after clicking 'Start', just a streaked image (attached) after a long initial delay of ~15 seconds.

When I select '(decode using VLC)' as the Source Mode I get an image within a couple of seconds, but after a few more seconds the image disappears for a brief time before reappearing and remaining.

Can you please assist me in getting either/both of these RSTP options to behave better?
